*** Sand Gymkhana 2006***
Date: Sunday 15th October, 2006.

The day was picture perfect, not a cloud in the sky and not too hot. The only downer was the very friendly flies.

Most of the competitors were meeting at Wilbinga Grove, but Noel and I volunteered to take the club trailer.

We arrived at South Pacific Sand Dunes to find Ken O’Reilly waiting for us, as Ian Strickland went to meet the other competitors and David Moylan went into Lancelin.

We set about putting up the tent so that we had some shade for the competitors, spectators and somewhere to do the scoring. By the time the tent was set up, Ian was back with the competitors. We then set about setting up the three courses: garage, slalom and cross-country.

When we congregated in the tent to hear the rules and select our number, I discovered that Melissa King was the only female driver. This gave me a mission to get at least one or two other female drivers. Then the unexpected happened: I ended up with a number and driving along with Freda, Leanne and Deb. I must admit I quite enjoyed myself and Noel enjoyed telling me where to go!!

We had some highlights with David Moylan getting stuck; Howard gave some spectacular sights with sand flying everywhere. Everyone had a good day.

Next year make a date to attend the Sand Gymkhana. It is not as hard as the Mud Gymkhana. All vehicles came back in one piece.

Thanks to Ken O’Reilly, Ian Strickland, Martyn Williams, Noel Turner and Spencer King for putting on a great day.

Congratulations to the winners Martin De Vries and Freda Kirsten.

Thank you to ORE for supplying the prizes.
